Auto Buzz

We enjoy watching the classic and exotic car auctions on TV so we were surprised to learn that Bring A Trailer online auctions is the largest car auction house.  It beats Mecum, Sotheby’s, Barrett-Jackson, and Gooding among others.  So if you’re looking for a Buzzed Boomer era classic, check out bringatrailer.com.  Whether buying or selling, Bring A Trailer could possibly save you money versus the traditional houses.

Record Setting Records

The vinyl LP fad continues!  42 million sold last year.

We love our good old fashioned albums for nostalgia sake (yet we have to periodically explain why we still hang on to them.)  It’s just that we still remember the thrill when bands would release new albums and we’d crank them up on the parent’s hi-fi and eventually on our stereo.

Nowadays, Taylor Swift and Adele top the vinyl charts.  So Boomers, get out there and pick up a copy of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon.  Pop out those AirPods and feel the music.  Share the music.  Remember how great that was!?

Raising the Bar

We like reading about seniors who enjoy catching a mellow Buzz. Residents at Marano Senior Living in downtown Seattle can not only partake in cocktails at the 24th floor Sea + Sky bar, they can learn to make them at a weekly Raising Spirits class instructed by bartender JB Van Horn. This uplifting news comes from a recent article in The Seattle Times’ Pacific NW magazine. Residents can also join cooking classes. What a nice way to add spirits and spice to retirement.

Dazed and Confused

“Today, we are in the midst of a “green” revolution where new strains of cannabis are being cultivated to produce desirable characteristics, unique traits, groundbreaking medical applications, and off-the-chart potency. And the quality and variety of strains available for the majestic flower of the female cannabis plant is astonishing. this dizzying array of hundreds, if not thousands, of cannabis strains can be an experienced toker’s dream or leave a novice user dazed and confused.” [Dazed and confused. That’s us.]

“How do we navigate through this modern marijuana landscape: What are the differences between various cannabis strains? Should we care whether we smoke an indica versus a sativa? What makes all these new hybrid strains so special?”

Green: A Field Guide to Marijuana by Dan Michaels is an excellent primer and reference. Read it and you’ll be a weed whiz.

As the book’s introduction goes on to say, “The difference between smoking a dank sinsemilla or some dry schwag (low grade) can mean the difference between feeling nice and lifted or feeling bugged out and paranoid.”

Here’s to feeling nice and lifted!

No Sugar Tonight In My Cocktail

We’re trying our best in the New Year to encourage mellow Buzzing. So here’s more tips on living to Buzz another day.

Drink cocktails neat. They tend to be sipped not sloshed

Water, water, and more water while you drink. And no drinking in the bathroom!

Go for top shelf booze. Might as well if your drinking less

Eat while you drink

Stick to your plan. Quit when you’re ahead

Avoid drinks with sugar. Too many calories. Too tasty. See “neat” above.

Take periodic breaks like Dry January

Tips For Seniors To Stay Motivated (or Covidated) To Exercise

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has a National Institute on Aging. We did not know that. The Institute has some suggestions for keeping that exercise motivation in gear.

Variety. Mix it up to work on strength, balance, flexibility and endurance. Makes sense.

Combine daily tasks like walking the dog or taking out the garbage with exercise by picking up the pace.

Make exercise a social activity. (Scratch this one for now unless you want to help thin the herd.)

Track your exercise and reward progress with a movie or massage. (Scratch the movie and massage for now. See thinning the herd above.)

Not particularly helpful? Well, blame Covid and drop down and give us 20!

Dry or Dryer January Helpful Hints

We’re always promoting responsible attainment of a Buzz and in that spirit here’s some suggestions from Men’s Health for maintaining high spirits without drinking lots of spirits:

Cue up a comedy instead of a drink

Round up some friends for some sports instead of meeting at the bar

Try a solo event like a movie or dinner

Rock out with your favorite music

Soak in a tub

Instead of a drink, reach for a pen and unleash those inner thoughts

Cook some creative meals

Get some real sleep.  How about a full 8 hours?

Tap into nostalgia.  Watch a favorite movie or listen to an entire favorite album

Enter suspended animation until February.  This last one is ours.

Just reading through this list makes us sad and thirsty.  Or as Pabst Blue Ribbon posted in a now-deleted tweet, “Not drinking this January?  Try eating ass!”

That’s a bit extreme.  Or is it?

Go forth and Buzz responsibly.

Drynuary

Some Buzzed Boomers are trying Dry January or moderating their drinking this month.  Some are amping up the exercise endorphins while trying to shed those holiday pounds.  Some are exploring their cannabis options.  And some are just sticking to that delicious cup of coffee or tea in the morning.

Whatever your path, whether a cocktail, a latte, a cannabis drink, or cold water after a good workout…. Savor the the beverage!

Happy New Year!
