Founding Father Samuel Adams was born on this day in 1722 . More importantly, Samuel Adams is the flagship brand of the Boston Beer Company. And, yes, the brand name was chosen in honor of Founding Father of the United States Samuel Adams. Adams inherited his father’s brewery on King Street in Boston. Some historians say he was a brewer, while others describe him as a maltster (does it matter?)
A bit later (~1984), Jim Koch found his great great grandfather’s beer recipe in his dad’s attic and brewed his first batch in his kitchen. He truly led the way for today’s craft brew industry as he wanted to produce something better than what was available at the time.
