Our family hasn’t cooked a turkey for Thanksgiving in quite a few years. Turns out no one was all that keen on the turkey itself. Most everyone liked stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and cranberries. We do a marinated tri-tip from the butcher shop on the bbq. Takes about 20 minutes. No sweating how long to cook it like a turkey. And it’s never dry. We do potatoes in the Instant Pot which is a quick half-hour job. The gravy comes from the gourmet grocery store and it’s good enough because….. we’ve had plenty of time to warm up with a cranberry cocktail! The wife will cobble up some cranberry sauce and I save a few berries to drop into the cocktail glass for a nice traditional garnish.
There are many, many recipes for a cranberry cocktail on the interweb. I like to add a little Charbord black raspberry liqueur to the vodka and cranberry juice ending up with what some call a Purple Haze. Which is perfect for a Buzzed Boomer from Jimi’s hometown.
