Scientific American published an article recently regarding what is known about the dangers of marijuana. We skimmed it. What we gathered was that young people and pregnant women might want to be very cautious. But not much was said about Baby Boomers. We figure it’s like most everything else that tastes good or is fun. Moderation or avoid it altogether. But we’re not scientists so best not pay any attention.
Start low and go slow. That’s sound advice for marijuana edibles. Smoking anything is not good for the lungs so lots of folks are using edibles. The drawback is that ingesting the right amount can be tricky since feeling the effects can take an hour or two versus just a few minutes for smoking a joint. Edibles effects can also last hours longer than those of a joint so overdoing can be unpleasant if anxiety sets in from overdosing. Less is more to start. Be careful out there.
Ohio became the 24th state to legalize marijuana. Finally seeing reason? More like they were tired of next door Michigan collecting all the tax revenue as Ohioans trekked across the border (no wall) to buy their weed. The answer is money. What was the question?
Don’t read this unless you’re completely sober or mental confusion may result. On this date in 2018, Canada legalized marijuana. It’s still illegal in the USA on a federal level. States other than those in the midwest and southeast have legalized it and reaped the tax revenue. Not sure how they get away with that but treating marijuana like heroin as the feds do doesn’t make much sense. Fortunately, or unfortunately, the feds have bigger fish to fry like stopping deadly fentanyl. But it clearly matters where you are standing in the USA when you indulge in marijuana. Crazy.
Did you think marijuana is a 1930’s (Reefer Madness movie) or a 1960’s discovery? Medical researcher, Phil Shain ([email protected]) , shared a post from the Biblical Archaeology Society revealing that evidence of marijuana was found at an ancient temple in Israel. “The Judahite Shrine of Tel Arad from 8th century B.C.E. has residue of cannabis and of frankincense. This is the first known evidence of hallucinogenic substance found in the Kingdom of Judah.”
“Despite the broadly positive findings, authors acknowledged that at least some of the reported improvements could be the result of a placebo effect.” Ahhhh, who cares? If it works, it works!
Seniors, consult your doctor before doing…. well….just about anything.
We recently had the opportunity to chat with with Phil Shain, co-founder of Three Feathers Company, makers of CBD products. Their mission is to create the finest and most effective CBD products in the world. CBD doesn’t get one high. Many people use it for pain relief. Phil knows something about pain having suffered a severe work accident that left him hospitalized for many months with a shattered neck, spine and wrists. That was 28 years ago. He has since dedicated himself to helping others take advantage of the benefits that CBD can provide. The CBD that Phil uses keeps his daily seizures and muscle spasms in check. Check out their website hereto learn more about CBD, the human Endocannabinoid System (ECS), and Three Feathers’ tinctures, capsules, and balms. All of their CBD is made from pure American grown hemp and contains no THC. Only the highest quality organic and all natural ingredients are used. Their products are completely pure and contain no additives, fillers or GMOs.
The Seattle Times has reported that the oversupply of cannabis in states like Washington and Oregon has put some growers out of business while being a boon to consumers. Growers are not allowed to sell out of state. Even with high taxes, legal weed is cheaper that illicit pot.
Oklahoma’s legislature voted against legalizing recreational marijuana. Not to worry. Ten percent of the population already has a medical marijuana card which is legal. Oklahoma City alone has over 400 medical marijuana dispensaries. Oklahoma has over 7,000 pot growers which is about quadruple the number of growers in California where recreational pot is legal.
So if anyone needs weed in Oklahoma, just ask a Baby Boomer with a “bum knee” or “sore shoulder.”
An unusually alert Buzzed Boomer Rural Correspondent recently reminded us to ask for a discount when purchasing Cannabis from retailers. He qualified for the senior discount which, at his local outlet, is called the “Silver Stoner Discount”. Saved 15 percent!. We likely won’t be receiving further reporting for awhile.
While California is pummeled with rain, for some of us, Dry January means a severe case of cottonmouth. That’s because California Sober means we can still enjoy weed. But pop a Cannabis edible and expect a mouth akin to the Sahara desert a couple hours later. And since we’re staying true to Dry January, we can’t wet it down with a beer, glass of wine, or a cocktail. We can replace the edible with a liquid version of Cannabis but, since only a few ounces are advisable, that doesn’t really work to wet the whistle.
We would expect any Wall Street Journal article to discuss the money involved with alcohol and cannabis. But this one discusses only their effects on health! And no big surprise, coming from a very conservative publication…. It’s all bad. Not that this news will put a dent in the popularity of either.
According to the LA Times, Stoned+Toned is fitness company that blends cannabis and fitness in pursuit of community and a more pleasurable workout. A “Pelostoned” Facebook group has thousands of members who smoke cannabis and ride their stationary bikes. So much for the lazy stoner.
