Tony Dow, who played Wally on Leave It To Beaver, has passed away at age 77. The show, in syndication, has never gone off the air. Good clean family fun was the order of the day as the Beaver, Wally, and troublemaker Eddie Haskell navigated suburban life in a simpler world. Tony went on to act and direct in Hollywood. Rest In Peace, Tony.
What you eat and drink before and after exercise matters. So says trusted Consumer Reports in this WASHINGTON POST article. Briefly, “a pre-exercise snack can give you energy, and eating after exercise is important because that is when cells are primed to absorb carbs and protein. Be sure you’re drinking enough fluid before, during and after workouts to stay hydrated.”
Blue Oyster Cult’s original member “Buck Dharma” plus long time member Eric Bloom are proving they’ve still got the Mojo during their current tour. They played the hits but also came to jam! Alas, no cowbell but otherwise, perfect!

“Spider dreams guaranteed. Got these for a transatlantic flight from Seattle. Took effect about 20 minutes from consumption. I slept for about 4 hours and continued to use them to adjust to the timezone change. Every night I had the same dream about a spider wrapping me in a web very tightly and speaking backwards. It seemed very scared and was furious I could not understand what it was trying to say. 20 years passed in the dream world and eventually the spider and I became close friends and four years later we were married. Understandably our differences were too much and our relationship fell apart from the inside. My infidelity was the last straw and we never recovered from the betrayal. I would always wake up right before we signed the divorce papers. I had this same dream every night for 6 days. Great product. Highly recommend.“

The Silver Diaries blog has some helpful suggestions for speeding up the 50+ metabolism. Read the blog and see how weight training, more protein, spicy food, hydration, coffee/green tea, fasting, and, yes, rest, can contribute to burning more calories than you consume to help drop those pounds.
We got this from sugarandsoul.co and it’s an easy, fun, and refreshing adult summer beverage. We like that it’s made right in the bottle! Drink the Corona down to the label. Great start. Add a shot of tequila then a splash of orange juice. A bit of grenadine adds color. Garnish with a lime after squeezing in a bit of juice. Drink. Repeat.
July 19 is National Daiquiri Day! Thank you NationalDayCalendar.com. Born in Cuba in the late 1800’s, the rum, lime and sugar cocktail evolved to become a favorite of Ernest Hemingway and John F. Kennedy. Today, toss some frozen limeade in the blender with some rum and ice and, voila, a refreshing summer delight!
July 16 is the anniversary of the first atomic bomb explosion on July 16, 1945 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Making the best of impending Cold War annihilation, bartenders back then stirred up wonderful libations like the Duck and Cover, the Atomic Fireball, and the Oppenheimer Martini. Luckily, today, the world possesses slightly less than 14,000 nuclear warheads. We feel so much safer now.
Easy Rider was released on July 14, 1969. That’s fifty-three years ago. Dennis Hopper, Peter Fonda, and Jack Nicholson starred in what is now a counterculture classic. Get your motor runnin’……..
It’s like Pavlov’s dog. When we hear the James Bond twangy guitar riff, we reach for a Martini. Monty Norman, who composed the theme, recently passed away at age 94. Here’s a BBC Proms performance which, by the way, credits John Barry who did not write the theme. Monty sued and won a few quid over that. Rest In Peace Monty.
Those amazing photos that NASA is releasing reminds us that there are an estimated 700 Quintillion planets out there…. give or take. If even 1% are habitable…… that’s a lot of earths, although we’re sure ours is the best. And you wonder why we like catching a Buzz. 700 Quintillion. That’s a billion billions. Yeah, right.
On July 10th, two talented musicians shared a birthday. Arlo Guthrie, known for songs such as The City of New Orleans, turned 75. Jerry Miller, formerly of San Francisco’s legendary Moby Grape, turned 79. Happy Belated Birthday to you both!
Roving, Raging Correspondent Hunter S. sampled some cleverly-named cocktails and shots at The Dogtown Roadhouse in Floyd, Virginia. Try the $5 shooter Dirty Bong Water (Spiced Rum, Blue Curacao, Melon Liquor, Sour Mix). How about a Liquid Marijuana shooter (Spiced Rum, Melon Liquor, Coconut Rum, Blue Curacao, Sour Mix, Pineapple Juice)? Got the munchies? Follow those up with a Dreamsicle Cocktail (Vanilla Vodka, Moylan’s Orange Craft Soda Topped with Whipped Cream and Sugar).
