Hemingway Daiquiri

Good news! We sampled a Hemingway Daiquiri at The Reef in Palm Springs. “Ernest’s beverage of choice for a good reason – maraschino liquor, Admiral Nelson Rum and a splash of grapefruit. It’s refreshing and will make you a better writer. (Okay, maybe not.)”

Wish we hadn’t seen that last part.

If the Shoe Fits…

Whether you’re getting your walking steps in or still jogging/slogging, it’s important to have the right shoe for your specific feet.  There’s lots of good information on the Interweb.  Our takeaway…. It makes sense to spend a bit (or quite a bit) more for shoes fitted at a running store.  That can make your treks more comfortable and reduce your risk of injury.

Scorpion Stretch

Knowledge is good. And stretching is good. We’re often a bit short on both. Yet MEN’S HEALTH suggests we add a Scorpion Stretch to our routine. That assumes we have a routine.

Check out this article and video for more information about the importance of stretching for men over 40.. And be careful. It sure sounds dangerous but likely the benefits are significant.

Doctor’s Orders

During Prohibition, whisky could be purchased legally through a doctor for “medicinal” purposes.  Funny, or sad, how drugs have found their way their way to the market over the years.  Anyway, the pictured bottle of Bourbon was prescribed in 1931 by Dr. H. B. MacDonald and it was purchased at  Eaton’s Emporium Drug Store in Redding, California.  

Now that you have your medicine…. how to properly drink whisky? The standard shot glass, wider at the top and narrower at the bottom, was designed to hide the taste of inferior whisky by dissipating its smell.  The proper shape is like a tulip which retains the aroma.

Now you know.

Positive Procrastination

Nationaldaycalendar.com notes that National Procrastination Week falls during the first two weeks of March or whenever it’s convenient.  For our purposes, this is a week to put off some necessary tasks in order to make extra time for…. exercising.  That’s right.  We’re going to put the Week to good use. Working on taxes will have to wait.

However, if procrastination stresses you out, here are some tips to avoid it.

Five Ways To Avoid Procrastination

1. Find the answer to ‘What’s In It For Me.”
2. Chunk your time – set a timer.
3. Watch out for time gobblers – internet, email, TV, phone, socializing, unimportant notices and forwards.
4. Delegate when the task is not part of your priority.
5. Make it fun by rewarding yourself.
